Promising Practices
The purpose of this section is to provide an idea-sharing forum for Institutions wishing to describe "best" or "promising" practices available to postdocs at their institution. Ideas presented in this forum may be replicated without institutional permission. It is highly encouraged that content in this section also be submitted for inclusion in the NPA toolkits (see link below). Please contact Alyson Reed (areed@nationalpostdoc.org) if you wish to contribute content to any of the NPA Toolkits, or to write an article highlighting your institution's promising practices for the NPA Postdocket.
- NPA Postdoctoral Offices/Institutional (PDO) Toolkit
-
Postdoctoral Offices (PDOs) are a critical source of support for postdoctoral fellows at their home institutions and nationally. There are many benefits to establishing and maintaining an administrative home for postdoctoral training and education. This toolkit is intended to serve as a resource guide to assist administrators, faculty and postdocs in starting and sustaining an effective PDO. In this toolkit, you’ll find a wealth of information, including best practices shared from PDOs nationwide, suggestions on how to gain support from key institute administrators and how to organize career development and survival skills workshops. This toolkit builds on the extensive library of resources first developed by the Postdoc Network (PDN) of Science’s Next Wave. Links are provided throughout the toolkit to the many articles and summaries created by the PDN. The NPA welcomes additions to this toolkit in the form of submissions from local PDOs that have important experiences to share that may be helpful to others.
